Compact homes, big living; how to better organise your indoor plants.

2019 could be summarised in the following sentence: 'It’s good to be busy, that’s how you know you are living'. And because we are alive, everything is possible; no great things ever come from getting cosy in your comfort zone, anyhow. So this past year, we managed to shake the world a bit. One of the most important lessons learnt was that life is way more fun if you live it in the spirit of collaboration, working with instead of against others. And so another year has passed, another year has come and found us growing up. And to be absolutely honest with you, I believe we are at our best while we are growing.

Growing older, wiser and bigger. Along with us growing, we also started feeling our house tinier than ever! One of the goals we set for 2020 is to reimagine our living habits and space. Today I'm sharing with you a super cosy and beautiful corner of my small flat and how you can better organise your space and by extension your indoor plants with a shelving unit. For a long time we mainly utilised the horizontal surface of our flat. Recently however, we felt the need to free more space within our home. So we came up with this amazing idea of organising things vertically to save space, something extremely suitable for small homes or studios that are lacking space flexibility.

Our flat is just above 400 square feet, and it's already two of us living here for now. As a result, we always try to think upwards when it comes to organisation and storage. This new shelving unit could be helpful in so many different ways; a stand for flowers, a planter, bookshelf, a storage unit, support for frames and base for other decorative items, a key holder, the top of a shoe rack, and the list goes on. It can be customised with additional storage boxes and baskets, you can add all sort of hooks and make it your own! And the best part is that I no longer have to struggle to open the window, because of the dozen plants that used to block the door handle access, before. Everything is now well organised and easily accessible. And this is what I love the most about this new vertical unit, along with the fresh timber smell and its awesome looks.

My plan for this year is to turn my home upside down, and little by little reconfigure every single corner of this tiny space. If you experience similar issues with your space, I’d love to hear all about your tips, suggestions or warnings!

OK, the best part was coming home one day to find the whole thing already being put together by Carlos and ready for me to decorate. I bet he had a lot of fun building it without me! Ha!
